I was doing dishes at the sink and glanced out the window just to put some eyes on the animals. (I like to peek in on them several times a day.) And something caught my eye…..
Hmmm…..Something’s not right here but….. I…. just…..can’t…..quite…..put……my……. finger….on….it……
Then I saw him. One small fattie was not where he was supposed to be.
The hens were not particularly insulted.
His mamma didn’t seem too concerned.
This wasn’t a planned escape. This was just a little walk-about.
He is still small enough to fit through the squares in the fencing. Most of his brothers are too big.
We’ve contemplated re-enforcing the fence with chicken wire so there could be no unplanned “walk-abouts”. But it won’t be long before he is also too large to fit through the wire. And the walk-about allows this little guy to have extra without the tussle of larger brothers at the feed trough. So for now he sneaks in and out a couple of times a day.
I don’t mind his antics, just as long as he doesn’t decide to hitch a ride to town to shoot pool with the guys.
Today’s count: 3.5 gals milk; 44 eggs
