I love calendula on all sorts of levels. They like cooler temps, days to maturity is only 50-56 days, they self seed AND they have medicinal value as well as a cut flower value. But one of the hidden benefits to the organic farmer is that calendula attracts blister beetles. These bugs are voracious and eat everything! They often show up in my flower fields after the hay is cut. The beetles eat the calendula to the nub and tend to leave the other blooms alone. Therefore saving the organic farmer from countless hours of hand picking bugs off blooms. Calendula- a super hero flower!
