So there he was- 5th inning, first game back after sustaining a right hamstring injury, sliding into 3rd base~ head first, in slow motion (don’t these things always go in slow motion?). And then the base got wrapped up in Daniel’s right shoulder. He heard a pop and an unnatural movement of the joint then lots of pain. When he rolled over onto his back, he said he had to physically push the shoulder joint back into place. The pain after that was better but his shoulder was not “right”. A CT scan and an MRI confirmed that Daniel’s shoulder had a small chip fracture and the soft tissue was disrupted in such a way that the joint was now unstable. Surgery was scheduled for today.
All smiles on the way to the hospital.
Before surgery, joking with the nurses.
3 hours later~ groggy but happy surgery was over
Daniel is my fearless child and though he wasn’t smiling 3 hours later, he was glad the surgery was over and successful. I am so thankful that we have good doctors and nurses who care about my son. I’m thankful that he is able to be “fixed” and not have to have a non-functioning shoulder at the ripe old age of 17. I’m so thankful that he can get on with recuperation and physical therapy. Baseball is over for him this year. But the doctor gave him a bionic shoulder and he has all year to get it back in shape!
He will be the best first baseman in all of Montana!
