Summer rain

It doesn’t rain in the summer here too often. But we have had rain yesterday and now today.

Yesterday morning started ominously with dark skies and threatening winds. I’m not usually worried about storms. As a matter of fact, we have them so rarely around here and I kind of enjoy a good driving rain storm. But this was a typical Montana summer rain~ moist with slow, soaking wetness that lasted for hours. Not much wind after all. NO HAIL! (I think I’m a little PTSD- ish after the Terrible Storm that occurred last month. Remember how the hail damaged everything in it’s path like a tornado?)

It was a good day to get things done inside.

I have severely neglecting all my inside duties for so long. The garden and animals usually take over all our attention this time of year. The kids have their inside chores, and they do a pretty good job, so the house isn’t a complete bomb. No complaints. But it’s not the same as when Mom does the job. So….

I did more laundry.

And I baked.

And I blanched some veggies for the freezer that I found on sale (pretty sure my broccoli isn’t going to make this year).

Then when the clouds parted for just a minute, I ran out to check the cow’s water and found this!

A fat frog!

Because we have had more rain than usually lately, the frogs are everywhere: in the barn, in the garage, on the front porch (NOT in the house, not yet anyway. Ewwww!).

It’s supposed to continue raining tomorrow and the highs are only to be in the 50’s. Whew. Only the 50’s!

But then it’s supposed to heat up again next week. So I’m going to take advantage of the cooler weather and do some canning.

Yay!

Not everyone is happy to stay inside.
