Look what I scored…. pumpkins! 103 large ones to be exact! And 12 pie pumpkins. One of our local super markets gives away any pumpkins they have left from Halloween on November 1st. I took what would fit in the back of our old SUV that-doubles-as-a-truck home, and stored them safely in a corner of the garage were they will be protected from the cold. Over the next several months they will be doled out to each of the animals here at the farm. They all eat pumpkins. I mean really~ who doesn’t like pumpkin? Even if it’s just to look at them???
“May we have some more, please?”
“Thanks, mom.”
Today’s count: one stinking egg. ONE!
What’s for supper: tacos for the boys and taco salad for us girls.
Weather: Mostly sunny (YAY!), with a high near 46. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Tonight partly cloudy, with a low around 30. Light and variable wind. UPDATE~ actually the high for us today on the farm was (drum roll please) 53 degrees. 53! in November!?
I love seeing all those pumpkins. Although we live in town now, we had plenty of years where extra pumpkins were a blessing for our animals (mostly pigs). Also, they are so cheerful, with their orange color–always brightens up the dimmer days of November.

Oh yes! The pigs and cows alike have faces covered in orange from “pigging” out on pumpkins. Our cow is dry right now but next year she’ll be in milk when the pumpkins arrive. I can’t wait to see if the squash changes the flavor of the milk. Pumpkin milkshake, anyone???
Thank you for reading Becky.
