It is snowing. We are supposed to receive about 4 or so inches today. The chores go on as usual. It just takes longer than when the weather is nice.
Animals are fed and watered.
And hay is distributed for warm beds.
A couple of our roosters have combs that have suffered from the extreme cold last month.
Here’s a shot of our Ameraucana roo~ Rooster Cogburn. I took the picture yesterday when the sun was out so you can see where his comb has been damaged.
These points will eventually slough off leaving a smaller, smooth comb that hopefully won’t be as vulnerable to future cold. Several years ago I tried to use Crisco as a protective barrier on a fairly large red rooster. There was A LOT of flapping and squawking and clawing. (And the rooster was not impressed either.) The “application” process left me a big slimey Crisco mess and not much protection was applied to the comb. So I usually let nature have her course when it comes to fleshy rooster bits.
Jumping to another thought~ look at Willow’s belly! She has 5 weeks to go in this pregnancy.
Enough outside activity. Gotta get the dishes done!
Hope y’all have a lovely day.
What’s for supper: ground beef sauteed with onions and mushrooms mixed with tiny chopped tomatoes and brown rice. Splash of balsamic vinegar optional 🙂
Today’s count: one frozen egg

Tonight snow. Low around 11. Wind chill values as low as zero. North northeast wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
**** Note~ please excuse the mess with the posting. We’ve been fighting with the computer. And it’s taken me all day to upload pictures and the text. My husband thinks that the problem isn’t with the computer as much as it is sunspots. I guess the spots and sun flares are really active right now and the activity is interfering with the workings of the satellites. I don’t know. All I know is that it’s making me crazy. OK. Now off the fold clothes.**** 🙂
Good looking Rooster!
