Milking is going well.

Maisy’s colostrum cleared in a couple of days and now we have pure milk. And pure cream.

In some ways it feels like there was never a break. 2 gallons in the morning and 2 in the evening. We’re rich!

Phil is ok with sharing the bounty. But Maggie is having a hard time with the whole “calf-and-milking” thing. She is not happy with the small separation that happens when we have to cordon her off during milking. She stands at the stall door and moos and shuffles her feet. This morning she jumped onto the Dutch door to try and climb into the stall with us.

Hopefully this will not be an all summer problem and she will get used to the routine.

Today’s count: 33 eggs and 4 gallons of milk.

What’s for supper: Pork burritos

Weather: Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 73. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Tonight partly cloudy, with a low around 45. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
