Just a quick note to give an update on the farm-goings-on (ahhh~ my grammar has deserted me!)

The days are long and mild with highs in the 70’s and lows in the 40’s (however, we did hit 36 last night. :/ Only some not so tough weeds seemed affected.) The pastures are growing fast and thick. It’s hard to believe that these fields had 2 feet of snow just 8 weeks ago.Β DSC02174It has been the perfect weather for planting/ weeding/ flower farming.

The animals are gorging themselves and a becoming sleek and sassy. We have a sweet hen who had decided to go broody with a huge clutch of eggs under her. I’ll bet this girl is hiding 20-25 eggs.Β DSC02209She only has another few days before we hear some peeps coming from under her copious feathers. Here she is with that “pregnant stare” that moms all over the world know so well. It’s a combination of “don’t bother me” and “what the heck was I thinking” kinda expression. She looking a little raggedy so I hope that her babies make an appearance soon.

DSC02210I spend most of my “free” time weeding all the plantlings that started in my basement back in February. I secretly love weeding, if I have the time. It stresses me out when I have to weed but just. Can’t. Get. There. I don’t know if you can see it in this pic~ but there is a Chabaud La France dianthus hiding in there.

DSC02211That’s better.

Now only a “few” more to go.

A couple of days ago I brought a handful of Walker’s Low catmint in from the garden to include into a few bouquets. I left them on the counter and ran to the bathroom. This is what I found when I got back.

That’s ok Rhett. I guess I could go out and cut some more since this bunch so obviously belongs to you! He digs catmint. See his eyes?

That’s all for now. Time to water the plant babies! Yay!!!!

Today’s count: 18 eggs- the big spring flush of eggs is starting to slow down

What’s for supper: Kale and hamburger soup

Weather: Sunny, with a high near 74. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Tonight mostly clear, with a low around 46. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

    1. I was really surprised at his reaction. He rolls in the catmint patch too. I did some research before I planted the stuff- it’s supposed to be really great In the vase and cats are not as attracted to it as catnip. I guess our cat didn’t read the literature πŸ™‚

      1. There are a few odd cats that really crave it. My Pa’s family had several cats, and one out of the several would go crazy for it. They actually bought cantaloupe specifically for the kitty, even if no one else ate it.
