…..then one August morning, Montana decides she is done with summer and catapults herself and all her citizens into fall.
And here we are. The last few days of August. We are still a bit smokey from the nearby Glacier National Park fires. We had a little rain yesterday which should clear us out for the time being. The light is definitely different; definitely “fall”.
You can really see the changes in this Maisey pic. The fields are golden in the sunshine.
The piglets~ well, they’re not really “piglets”; more like teenage pigs~ are still wary of me. I’ve called to them and sung to them and brought them goodies from the house but they still are skittish. Just more time is needed, I think.
The chickens have had an unexpected egg laying frenzy. Of course they are laying willy- nilly (do people say “willy- nilly” anymore?) on the coop floor. But I don’t care. I’ll crawl under there to get at those beautiful eggs!
The garden is outdoing itself (herself?). I’m behind picking green beans! There are a ton of green beans! And we have an abundance of zucchini and cucumbers though I only planted 2 of each plant. No complaints!!! 🙂
But along with the usual changes to the land comes changes to our family. I took number one (only) daughter and number two son to school this past week end while my husband motored number three son to look at a school in Oregon.
It’s exciting and wonderful to watch your kids morph into adults~ off on their own adventures!
Part of me screams “Wait! Come back! Don’t leave!”
But most of me whispers “You’re going to do great!” “Come home soon”. “I’ll have brownies waiting”.
Ok….enough crying onto my keyboard.
Those green beans aren’t going to pick themselves!!!
Paradise~ just north of nowhere.
Today’s count: Eggs 15! Wow!
What’s for supper: Ice cream! with peanut butter and hot fudge sauce because~ well, I can!
Weather: Areas of fog before 11am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 69. Calm wind becoming south southwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Tonight patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 36. South southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.
Nice to see your post. Summer here in N. CA: last month and a half of smoke. The last few days were mostly clear. Terrible fires. Would love some rain. Our youngest grandchild took herself off to Jr. College. One of our great grandkids started school. That was exciting. This week our a.m. temp was 40 degrees. Fall is nigh and I can honestly say we are thankfully looking forward to it. Your piglets bring back lots of memories. Homemade sausage and back then even did our own lard. We had a Jersey for our milk, etc. Strawberry shortcake and fresh whipped cream. Yum. So much work in the summer but so worth it. Take care and don’t work too hard.

Thanks Bev~ no worries about “working too hard” for me! With most of the kids off on their own adventures, my biggest push is putting the garden harvest away for a rainy day. So sorry to hear about all your fires! They are just terrible…..so destructive. Talk to you again soon.
